I’m sorry if this is off topic or offensive to anyone, but I feel that I have to say something: ICE and the ‘powers that be’ are committing atrocious and blatantly racist acts against the people in this country.
We are all immigrants, our country was founded on this very premise. There is a metal plaque at the base of the Statue of Liberty with a poem that reads: give us your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. This is the America that I believe in and will fight for!
There is currently no real legitimate way for people to immigrate to this country, especially if they don’t have money. We claim that we are equally open to people of all colors, social-economic classes and belief systems, yet we set immigration policies that are blatantly biased and completely inaccessible to the underprivileged. So of course we have people illegally coming into this country. They are people you know, who work hard doing jobs which support our day to day lives.
As someone that has a close friend who I lived with who was undocumented, I can tell you that it is a fucking nightmare being in this country when you don’t even feel like you can seek medical treatment if you are critically ill, or constantly living in fear of getting pulled over on your way to work which could lead to your deportation. Why do I deserve to have these liberties when my family has only been here for one generation and somehow my friend does not? This makes absolutely no sense to me. And I am appalled by our current administration’s behavior in this matter.
Our government is paying people 50K signing bonuses and 100k salaries plus hazard pay to the ICE agents to commit acts of violence against the American people and this needs to stop! I don’t think law enforcement is inherently bad, but I do believe that even moralistic Americans will commit violence against innocent people when they are desperate enough, out of work and trying to provide for their families. We have made money waaaaay too powerful and now it is being used to wage war against the hard working people in this country and I will not stand for it! ✊
